Inspired by the spiritual and meditation practices of the East, where mala necklaces are used to help the practitioner to focus the mind and recite sacred mantras or prayers. Malas are also known as prayer beads. Using beads for prayer as a meditation tool dates further back than written history. You can see them used as a tool in almost every spiritual and religious practice. The oldest known form of the prayer bead is the Japa Mala used in Hindu prayer.
This handmade necklace is based on the traditional mala style, but with a little creative interpretation. It features irregular shaped Freshwater Pearls in iridescent blue and purple tones . These are complimented by glossy, faceted black jet and matt, rough hewn handmade glass beads which add a wonderful authentic, ethnic character to this necklace.
Finished at the front with an intricate and exquisite Bali sterling silver bead pendant. Completed at the back with an aged and distressed sterling silver S hook clasp.
At approximately 28 inches in length this necklace can be worn long, or maybe wrapped twice around the neck for a choker effect. With it's fabulous bohemian styling and ethnic flair, it's also great for layering with other necklaces, so you can easily liven up a tired outfit or old pieces of jewellery and give them a wonderful new look.
